Four Basic 16-move
Closed Mini-Tours

The following four basic 16-move closed min-tours can be seen in thousands of Knight Tours, and you have probably seen them used many times throughout this website. I will show you various combinations of these four basic tours, and then how they can be used modularly to make other size tours. The combinations shown here are not exhaustive, but used only as examples. By using these mini-tours, you can experiment making additional combinations.

To see how the last mini-tour combination (KT16-17.gif) shown above was used to create an Order 16 Magic Square Closed Knight's Tour where all rows, columns, and major diagonals each added up to 2056, check out Reconstruction of de Vasa's Magic Square.

Notice the two mini-tour patterns (KT16-4.gif and KT16-18.gif) that look like the letters "I" and "U". Go to my I-N-C-U-H webpage to see how those two mini-tours can be manipulated to create a new alphabet, vocabulary, ciphers, or codes.
